Accreditation Actions

July 2019 Accreditation Action: Accept the Progress Report.

Rationale: The program is compliant with all Standards.

Accreditation Award: Initial Accreditation

December 2018 Accreditation Action: Grant 10 years of Initial Accreditation with a Progress Report. The program remains non-compliant with the following Standards:
The following Standards ore Partially Met:
Standard 4. Program Goals. Revisions to goals 7, 8, and 9 are still needed as described more fully in those standards
Standard 7. Student and Graduate Goal. Revisions to goals 7, 8, and 9 are still needed as described more fully in those standards.
Standard 8. Communities of Interest Goal. The target outcomes and steps to achieve, etc. do not align up completely with the goal.
Standard 9. Advisory Committee Goal. The goal seems to be more of a target outcome. When looking at the target outcomes and steps, there seems to be two separate issues being addressed – one regarding holding of meetings and one related to attaining more sites. These are certainly fine but the goal itself needs to be refined and the target outcomes and subsequent steps revised.
Standard 24. Curriculum. While many of the syllabi state the requirement that the course is open to health information management majors only, this does not address the issue of staying along the curriculum plan. Can you students take courses in any order that they might want? Having pre-requisites could prevent this from happening.
Standard 26. Curriculum Syllabi and Competencies. Following deficiencies are still in error:
1.The syllabus for 425 is not included and so the weekely assignments and grading rubrics can not be reviewed.
2.HIMS 455 and HIMS 460 do not address the entry-level competencies
3.The grading scale used is not given for HIM 405
4.While the syllabi do not have pre-requisites, statements relating to being open to HIM majors only have been added. However, not all of the syllabi (such as HIM 405, 455, 435, 415, 410, 408, 401, 440, 420 and 418 ) refer to having completed all courses in the sequence. This should be on every syllabus.
Standard 30. Publications and Disclosures. Compliance with this standard cannot be assessed until the actual changes are made in the 2019-2020 catalog.
