August 2020 Accreditation Action: Accept the Progress Report.
 
Rationale: The program is compliant with all Standards.
 
Accreditation Award: Continuing Accreditation.
 
January 2020 Accreditation Action: Grant seven years of Continuing Accreditation with a Progress Report. The program remains non-compliant with the following Standards:
The following Standards are Partially Met:
Standard 4. Program Goals. A revised PEP was submitted at Program Response to Site Visit Report. Revisions indicate full compliance with Standard 5 Curriculum Goal and Standard 6 Faculty Development Goal. Evaluation plans for goals addressed at Standards 7-8-9 remain Partially Met. Further clarification of evaluation plan needed.
Standard 7. Students and Graduates Goal. The revised PEP submitted at Program Response to Site Visit Report specifies a Target Outcome for this goal:80% of students who attempt the RHIT certification exam will pass. Results are noted. However, annual review of RHIT scores is not clearly stated at Steps to Achieve the Target Outcome and role of the Advisory Board is not mentioned.
Standard 8. Communities of Interest Goal. The revised PEP submitted at Program Response to Site Visit Report specifies a Target Outcome for this goal with a timeframe: annual participation in the Health Expo. Steps to Achieve the Target Outcome indicates faculty will present a specific number of activities to increase awareness of the HIM field to high school students and counselors, assumed to be as part of the Health Expo, but this is not clearly stated. At Results, feedback from comment cards is mentioned. Identify use of the comment cards as a data collection method at Steps to Achieve. Further clarification of evaluation plan is needed.
Standard 9. Advisory Community Requirement Goal. The revised PEP submitted at Program Response to Site Visit Report indicates editing, but further revision is needed to specify all planned Steps to Achieve the Target Outcome for this goal and to indicate Results and Analysis/Action Plan that clearly flow from those specified steps.
 
Revision noted. Goal is compliant; further clarification of evaluation plan is needed. For example, an Advisory Committee survey was added at Steps to Achieve the Target Outcome; however, Results and Analysis/Action Plan do not address the planned survey, instead speak to other topics.
Standard 11. Monitor Assessment Results. Documentation of Advisory Committee involvement in monitoring and reviewing assessment results has been lacking.
Standard 24. The Curriculum. While the revisions represent progress, further refinement is recommended for full compliance.  VI.D.2 – Case 6.1 Labor and Employment Laws (Foley) assignment noted in revised HIMS 2350 course material. Foley case/answer key addresses federal law. While the instructor’s assignment asks students to consider local and state labor regulations, no answer key or resources are shown to support coverage of these areas of law.
VI.H.3 – Data presentation assignment noted in revised course material for HIMS 2250, asking students to analyze disease prevalence by racial category and use spreadsheet software to create graphs showing findings. Cultural issues affecting health/quality/cost are not addressed directly at taxonomic level 5 (evaluate).
 
Pause & Review Advanced Forum reflection/discussion case assignment noted in revised HIMS 2490 course material. Taxonomic level is appropriate (5, evaluate). Scenario involves missed appointments, policy for charging. Students are asked to assess policy fairness, impact on both patients and facility. Cultural issues are implied, but could be directly addressed in discussion questions in order to more clearly cover this competency.
