February 2018 Accreditation Action: Grant ten years of Initial Accreditation with a Progress Report. The program remains non-compliant with the following Accreditation Standards:
The following Standards are Partially Met:
Standard 4. Program Goals. The student learning target outcome scale needs clarification/revision to more clearly state the expected student learning outcome.
Standard 5. Curriculum Goal. As stated in the Site Visit Report, this Standard requires that the program assess the appropriateness and effectiveness of the curriculum, with the results of the program assessment used as the basis for ongoing planning and program improvement.
Standard 8. Communities of Interest Goal. No CEU events have been offered for the HIM community to date. An event is planned.
Standard 15. Program Director Responsibilities. The Standard requires that the program director be responsible for the organization, administration, continuous program review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program. The program director must be given adequate release time to devote to curriculum development and evaluation, counseling of students, program management and administrative duties within the institution.
Standard 18. Professional Development. As stated in the Site Visit Report, faculty appear to have knowledge of course content, but are lacking in knowledge of Bloom’s Taxonomy Classification, how this impacts content delivery and the obligation to teach to higher taxonomic levels. Efforts to address this deficiency are underway, but need follow-up.
Standard 21. Learning Resources. The Standard requires that the sponsoring educational institution provide appropriate resources to support the learning experiences and achieve the program’s goals and outcomes.
Standard 24. The Curriculum. As indicated in the standard, the program must demonstrate that the curriculum meets or exceeds AHIMA HIM entry-level curriculum competencies for associate degree programs.
Standard 25. Curriculum Sequence. The Standard requires evidence that instruction is delivered in an appropriate sequence.
Standard 27. Curriculum Evaluation. The Standard requires that student evaluation be conducted frequently enough to assess student progress and mastery of competencies at the required Bloom’s taxonomy level.
Standard 28. Professional Practice Experiences. The Standard requires that professional practice experiences be designed to reinforce didactic instruction and include coordinated experience at the practice site.
Standard 32. Student Records. Standard indicates that student records “must be maintained in sufficient detail to document learning progress and achievements” and further that these must be maintained ” … in a safe and accessible location. As stated in the Program Response, “college will not be modifying the Banner system reporting”.
