July 2018 Accreditation Action: Grant ten years of Continuing Accreditation with a Progress Report. The program remains non-compliant with the following Accreditation Standards:
The following Standards are Partially Met:
Standard 4. Program Goals. Results pending, due in annual assessment cycle by Oct. 2018.
Standard 8. Community of Interest Goal. Input into program PPE needs ultimately supports assessment of effectiveness of the curriculum, fits best with Goal 1 Curriculum.
Standard 24. The Curriculum. HIT 297: Assignment addressing VI.A.3. appears appropriate, but it is unclear from the Spring 2018 syllabus how this assignment and evaluation of student performance are integrated into the course. BOTE 171: Revised course syllabus shows inclusion of chapters addressing missing body systems content; to be implemented Fall 2018.
Standard 25. Curriculum Sequence. As stated in the Site Visit Decision Comment: “This is a sequencing issue as it is not satisfactory educational practice to introduce two coding systems concurrently. Pathophysiology is usually sequenced in a term prior to coding, however ii is satisfactory to teach concurrent with one coding course, with body systems coordinated between the two courses.”
Standard 26. Curriculum Syllabi and Competencies. Course syllabi for HIT 176, 280, 282, 283, and 287 need indication of point or % value for graded assignments so that evaluation is clear to the student. Syllabi provided for these courses do include an Evaluation Mechanism table showing % grade weight per assignment category. The unit schedule detail shows useful points per assignment. While grading information is available in the example syllabi provided, evaluation could still be clearer to the student. The goal shown on HIT 297 is appropriate for evaluating the program, but not for evaluating student performance in this PPE course.
